About Sharjah Malayali Samajam (SMS)
Bridging Cultures, Building Community.
The Sharjah Malayali Samajam (SMS) is a premier non-profit, non-political cultural organisation dedicated to the vibrant community of Keralites residing in the UAE.
Our journey began in 2006 in the Emirate of Sharjah with a humble gathering of 36 founding members. Today, SMS stands as a pillar of the expatriate community, having grown into a massive family of over 450 families across Sharjah and the surrounding Emirates.
Our Mission & Objectives
SMS operates with a core commitment to social welfare, cultural exchange, and Karunya (compassion). We strive to remain above politics, religion, and localism, ensuring a neutral and welcoming space for all.
- Fostering Harmony: To maintain cordial and respectful relations with citizens of all nations residing in the UAE.
- Upholding Values: To uphold India's reputation through positive social contributions.
- Talent Development: To identify and promote the artistic and sporting talents of our members, their children, and the wider community.
- Member Welfare: To plan and implement specific welfare schemes to support our member families.
What We Do
SMS is a multifaceted organisation. While we love to celebrate, our heart lies in helping the needy in society.
Cultural & Social
We keep our heritage alive by organising family get-togethers, picnics, and grand celebrations of Kerala’s major festivals.
Health & Welfare
Through our Karunya Projects (charity initiatives) and medical camps, we provide essential support to the underprivileged.
Education
We conduct Malayalam study classes to connect the new generation with their mother tongue and host talent competitions to boost confidence.
Sports
We coordinate various sports meets to promote physical fitness and team spirit.
Our Wings
The SMS family is strengthened by two active sister organisations:
- Sharjah Malayali Vanitha Samajam: Empowering over 400 women members.
- Sharjah Malayali Bala Samajam: Nurturing the future with over 225 children (under 18).
